Transformations at Manulife Wealth

Manulife Wealth is undergoing a business and digital transformation to better serve you, and there are important changes that you need to be aware of. You received a letter from Manulife Wealth Inc., now known as Manulife Wealth, with your December statement that detailed some of these changes. Here is an overview of changes and some action items to help for a smooth transition.

What’s changing and may require your action?

Online banking: In order to deposit funds to your investment accounts using online bill payment, you’ll need to update your account number and the bill payee information from Manulife Wealth Inc. to Fidelity Clearing Canada ULC. You can contact my office after April 1, 2024, and we’ll have your new account numbers to set up this change. Or you can wait until you receive your new account numbers in your April 2024 Manulife Wealth statement (delivered in May 2024) to make the updates yourself. Your pre-authorized debits, systematic withdrawals and registered retirement income (LIF/LRIF/RLIF) payments are not affected, and no change is required of you.

Online access to your account: There will be a new Manulife Wealth Investor Portal. This mobilefriendly platform offers many great features, including up-to-date information on your account values and performance, the ability to view holding and activity details, and view and download all your documents issued after April 1, 2024.

If your document preference is currently set to e-delivery, Manulife Wealth will begin sending email invitations the first week of April. You’ll get a link to register for the new Manulife Wealth Investor Portal and these invitations will be sent out over several weeks. This email will explain how to register for the new Investor Portal using your current Manulife ID. If you do not want to wait for your email invitation to register or currently do not have online access and want to sign up, please contact my office (204-822-6887) anytime from April 1 or you’re welcome to contact the Manulife Wealth Support Team as of April 1 to assist you with registering for the portal (1-833-363-0699 or manulifewealthsupport@manulife.ca).

What’s changing but requires no action from you?

New account numbers. Your account numbers will be changing effective April 1, 2024.  You will receive two April 2024 account statements delivered in May 2024:  • One statement is from Manulife Wealth Inc., showing a transfer out of your investments and/or cash to your new accounts custodied at Fidelity Clearing Canada ULC and a closing balance. There will be no disruption to your service or investor protection coverage during this transition.  • The other statement is from Manulife Wealth issued by Fidelity Clearing Canada ULC, showing your new accounts with the fully transferred balance. The statement from Manulife Wealth will have a refreshed design. On this statement, you will see your new account numbers. You will continue to receive quarterly statements, and if you have transactions during the month, you will also receive a monthly statement. Your statement delivery preferences will remain unchanged during this transformation.

Tax reporting changes: Depending on when you make your RSP first 60-day contributions, your contribution receipts may be labelled Manulife Wealth Inc. or Manulife Wealth. These documents will be delivered to you based on your delivery preference. No change is required on your end. All these upcoming changes were shared with you in your 2023 year-end Manulife Wealth Inc. statement that you received in mid-January. Please do not hesitate to contact my office if you have any questions.

Feature Photo: Fox Sparrow

  Fox Sparrow

These sparrows are primarily ground-foragers, scratching and hopping along the forest floor in search of seeds, insects, and other small invertebrates. They have a habit of vigorously flicking aside leaf litter with their feet to uncover food. Fox sparrows are known for their melodious and complex songs, which they often sing from low perches or while hopping on the ground. Overall, the fox sparrow is a fascinating bird appreciated by birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts for its beautiful plumage and enchanting song.

Feature Recipe - Spaghetti Squash Risotto

This recipe is sure to be a hit with its creamy texture and delicious combination of flavors.

  • 1 small butternut squash, peeled, seeded, and diced into small cubes
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 1/2 cups white rice
  • 1/2 cup dry white wine
  • 4-5 cups vegetable broth, kept warm
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Fresh parsley, chopped, for garnish
  • Quartered grape tomatoes optional.

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). Place the diced butternut squash on a baking sheet, drizzle with olive oil, and season with salt and pepper. Roast in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until tender and slightly caramelized. Remove from the oven and set aside.
  2. In a large, heavy-bottomed pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic, and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
  3. Add the rice to the pot and cook, stirring constantly, for 1-2 minutes, or until the rice is lightly toasted.
  4. Pour in the white wine and cook, stirring constantly, until the wine has been absorbed.
  5. Begin adding the warm vegetable broth, one ladleful at a time, stirring constantly and allowing each addition to be absorbed before adding the next. Continue this process until the rice is creamy and cooked through, about 20-25 minutes.
  6. Stir in the roasted butternut squash and Parmesan cheese. Season with salt and pepper, to taste.
  7. Serve the risotto hot, garnished with chopped parsley. Enjoy!
  8. Top with tomatoes if so desired
